How the American Cancer Society is using Facebook to engage and inform their audience and supporters.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) was founded over 100 years ago with its headquarters in Atlanta, GA.  The ACS has local and regional offices located throughout the country; they currently support 11 geographical Divisions.  Over the past two decades, the non-profit organization has helped to save 1.5 million lives in the U.S. Their mission is “dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.”

The ACS is fully aware that effective use of social media, ACS primarily uses Facebook, can help to promote their mission.  Their main Facebook page contains accurate and informative resources to help educate, advocate, provide services and support its community.

Their main Facebook page share healthy lifestyle tips, information on events and links to other products such as  Relay for Life.  Links to volunteer or donate are also available.  This social media platform also presents an opportunity for people to connect through their shared experiences, thoughts, and concerns.
